Unlock the Mysteries of “Ancient” Bitcoin After 12 Years of Being Dormant – Decrypt

On Thursday, 139 Bitcoin purchased in June 2011 were moved into a newly created Segwit address, showing that Bitcoin bought in 2011 had woken from its slumber. This “Ancient Supply” of Bitcoin, which refers to Bitcoin purchased at least 7 years ago, has seen a lot of movement this year. The market saw a truly ancient wallet created in October 2010 sell off 429 Bitcoins in March last year and another Satoshi-era address move 412 Bitcoin worth $9.6 million dollars after more than a decade. It is believed that the majority of Bitcoin’s ancient supply is lost forever, although on-chain analytics provider Glassnode has found that the number of Bitcoin held long term is growing by 100,000 BTC per month. This could indicate a change in conviction among Bitcoin holders.

This is good news for Bitcoin holders, as it indicates that despite the market fluctuations and occasional selling, the majority of Bitcoin holders remain confident in the stability of the market.
